Shooting the city

Blossom

I spent Saturday photographing various parts of Washington, DC with a couple of friends. Unbeknownst to us, we scheduled the outing to coincide with the Cherry Blossom festival.

We began our journey at the Smithsonian Metro station, and from there meandered our way around the mall to the World War II, Vietnam, and Korean War memorials. There were a lot of visitors, and some of the really great wide angles were simply too full of tour groups to take a shot. That said, photographic opportunities are what you make of them. Plus, it’s always healthy for the soul to visit these memorials and reflect on our history.

From downtown, we Metro’d our way to Woodley Park, and walked to Adams Morgan. Among other things, I came away with a few great shots of two popular murals:

Muralyn Monroe Muralyn Monroe (Zoom) De-muralized

The latter, Un Pueblo Sin Murales . . . (or A people without murals, or The Adams Morgan Mural), is apparently the oldest remaining outdoor work in Washington.” I don’t think that any of us were aware of the cultural significance of this subject at the time.

Overall, a successful outing, and a generally good time. I’m slowly posting photos from this outing in my Washington, DC set on Zooomr.
