Comments on: Importing video from Sony HDD Handycam to Mac OS X 10.5.X

I hope someone can help. I’ve tried everything posted here to make my Sony DCR-SR87 import video to my Macbook Pro running OS 10.5.8, but nothing works. iMovie ’09 does pop up a window saying it is searching for a camera and even says ‘DCR-SR87′, but after ‘searching’ for about 1 minute, no clips show up to import. I’ve tried opening iMovie then powering the handycam, powering the handycam then opening iMovie, and even chosing ‘DiscBurn’ instead of ‘USBConnect’. No clips. Am I doing something wrong? Did I record in an incorrect format? I have about 7 hrs of SP video in my handycam’s HDD that I can watch straight from my TV. I really want to edit all of it. Please help!!

For mac,if you need convert dvd to play,you can use a good mac dvd converter.

Thanks for all these posts. I have spent hours myself trying to download media from the borrowed Sony Handycam HD SR8. So incredibly frustrating! All these posts and information has helped me, but can I download just one video and not the entire hard disk?

And that Samsung is looking mighty good.

I have a Sony DCR-SR47. I had similar problems, but ended up getting it figured out. Connect the camera to your Mac >> Open iMovie >> Select the File Tab >> Select Import from Camera >> Wait a few seconds and see if your Mac doesn’t offer to recognize the camera. Mine did and everthing came in fine.

Connect your camcorder usb cable to your mac if there are still photos iPhoto will start automatically, if that is the case start iMovie 09 go to file -> import from camera, and you should find all your camcorders clips thumbnails, import all

I have DCR SR200. When I use disc burn it does bring the icon but I still can’t import the movies using iMovie. When I click on the icon it only sees built in iSight. The only options I have is “Done” and “Capture”. What am I missing?

I have a sony DCR-SR47, and once I opened up iMovie (09) THEN plugged in the camera it recognized it the clips and imported them automatically…

@JenJ: You could always plug in the camera and copy the movie files back to the camera (OS X should see it as a generic USB device). Then disconnect and re-connect the camera. iMovie should import them without any problem. There’s probably another way, but this will work. -K

Thanks to your tips I can now import from my camera to iMovie!!

Any ideas if I’ve already moved the mpeg files from my Sony DCR SR200 to a hard drive and want to access them with iMovie? Seems like iMovie should be able to load them from a hard drive if it can recognize them from the camera.
